Last week, if you’ll recall, was not the most productive week in our preparations for Chile. Well, after all of those frustrations, we’re happy to say that this week has been much better.
We went to North Carolina this past weekend for a friend’s wedding. We decided that it would be the perfect opportunity to go ahead and transfer our residency back to North Carolina. (For Visa purposes we need a state-side residency, and it was easiest to claim that with family.)
So yesterday morning with all our documents in hand (a feat that required a late night round trip to Atlanta and back) we set off for the DMV. By 7:50 we were in line, and by 9:00 we were leaving with our new licenses! The employees were kind and helpful and the written test was nowhere near as difficult as we had remembered. Never has a trip to the DMV been so encouraging!
After this we took off to jail. No, we weren’t arrested, but we did learn that Buncombe County does fingerprinting much cheaper than Atlanta. It took us a while to find our way around the construction in Asheville, but we finally found the right office; we were fingerprinted, and by 10:30 we were done!
Clearly, our journey towards applying for visas is going much better. Thanks to the kindness of the Chilean consulate we now know exactly what visa we are applying for. Thanks to this past Monday we are well on our way to actually being able to apply. Amazing the difference a week can make!
