“J” is for “Jesus”

Seal on a "J" dollar

Our church continues to amaze and encourage me. In February, Blake and I took a tour of Sunday school classes–thanking them for their support so far, and asking if individuals or classes would be willing to pledge to our monthly support. Since then, two classes have pledged and two more have invited us to their classes to give us money from special offerings they took up. We’re constantly overwhelmed by the generosity and graciousness of our church family and I want to share what was written in the card that accompanied the donation we received this past Sunday.

“At our age, we are not able to help with the yard sale. We look for J for Jesus dollars when we shop. Our dollars are brought to Sunday School (and dedicated) to Missions. The ones we found these last two months, we are dedicating to your mission work in Chile. Our prayers for your and your work on the mission field.”

We were both so touched by their thoughtfulness and creativity with how they take up missions money. I’ve always known that dollar bills have letters and numbers on them, but never stopped to pay attention. From now on, every time I see a “J,” I will think of this Sunday School class and their heart for missions.

Becca and Blake, it was so good to see and fellowship with you at the Mission Extravaganza and see how Our Lord is blessing your life because of your faithfulness.
I’m curious about the J Dollars. Please explain. This might be something our WMU would be interested in persuing for missions support. As we are getting ready for celebrating the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, you are in my prayers and thoughts. God Bless you.

      Nannie,
It was good to see you, too! You are such an encourager! I wish we could see you more often.
A “J” dollar is a dollar bill that has the letter “J” on it in the green serial number and in the Federal Reserve District Seal, to the left of Mr. Washington’s face. The “J” actually indicates that it was issued by the Federal Reserve in Kansas City. I’ve added a picture of the seal to this blog for clarity.

      Love you!!
      Bekah
